Joseph Tafese attended SHAD in 2017 and received the Dave Black Award for Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. After moving to Canada from Ethiopia, Joseph decided to invest the only thing he had – time – on the inner-city children he lived with. He became a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Mentor and Program Facilitator for the Boys and Girls Club and noticed improvements in their self-esteem and realizations of their potential. He is currently a Software Engineering student at the University of Waterloo.
