Dr. Kimberly Girling

Policy Analyst
Kimberly Girling holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia, where
she studied new therapeutics for Huntington's Disease, a neurodegenerative illness.  Kimberly
was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellowship.
Through the fellowship, she was positioned with Defence Research and Development where she
worked to identify ethical challenges of emerging technologies for human enhancement in the
military. Kimberly is passionate about health and science policy and has engaged in in numerous
projects related to global health and drug policy, most recently initiating and running a cross-
Canada survey on substance use in young users. For several years, Kimberly also served as the
President of the Student Biotechnology Network, a BC-wide organization that helps students
develop career paths in life science and biotechnology through education about career
opportunities and connection with industry leaders. She currently works as a Science Policy
Analyst at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
