Dr. Art Blake

Associate Professor and ECI Faculty Chair, Ryerson University
Art Blake is Associate Professor in the Department of History, Ryerson University. He is currently seconded to Ryerson's Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI) as ECI Faculty Chair, a new pilot leadership role. The position is designed as a bridge between OVPECI and the academic side of the university to enhance communication and practice about equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Art is currently working closely with senior OVPECI staff providing support to Canada Research Chair (CRC) search committees in their efforts to reach and engage more diverse applicants in keeping with the new CRC program EDI mandate.

Art is an interdisciplinary scholar whose research and teaching addresses U.S. urban and cultural history, with particular interests in race, gender and sexuality. He has published on topics such the racial history of citizen's band radio, on urban tourism, on fashion history, and his new research explores "transdressing" -- the pleasures and challenges of clothing as experienced by transgender people.
